The Truth About Witchcraft Symbols

Regardless of what Witchcraft path you are following, there are many symbols that represent different energies and power sources... many of them are the same across the different traditions.

Many of these symbols are used to represent the divine. For example, in Wicca, most of these "divnity" symbols are used to represent the Goddess. Some of these symbols include the moon, spiral, circle... and there are many others.

Here are some of the other common witchcraft symbols used in various different traditions... along with their common meanings:

Rose - this is a powerful symbol of the Goddess. The petals represent the vulva, which is the sacred gateway where everything in the universe is born.

Cowrie Shell - this is a symbol of the birht canal of the Goddess. Many scholars believe that this was one of the original symbols of the goddess. There is evidence of this symbol being used as far back as 20,000 B.C.

Ocean - any image of the ocean is symbolic of the Goddess' womb in many Witchcraft traditions. The waters of the ocean bring life into the world.

Apple - this is a symbol of importance in many paths of Wicca, and is also looked upon as a representation of hte Goddess. This goes back to the story of Adam and Eve. Eve was given wisdom when she ate the forbidden apple...along with the knowledge that she was divine. So then, the apple is a symbol of the divine knowledge the Goddess wants to give us.

Shell - many other types of shells also represent the Goddess. Any spiral-shaped shells or conch type shells can bring powerful Goddess energy to any spell or ritual.

Other symbols that are important in Witchcraft are the Eye of Maat... double and triple spirals... the crescent moon... and the full moon.

All of the symbols discussed here represent the "Goddess" side of the divine. They are used across traditions and practices in many spells and rituals.
